I do not do this at every meal, BELIEVE ME, but once in a while, I position Em’s food in faces or fancy symmetrical designs for guaranteed consumption. The face above looks psychotic. Seriously, I’ve seen it in nightmares, but she ate it. Am I the only weirdo mom that makes food into faces?
This picture was taken yesterday morning. In light of the sale of our house and in celebration of NO MORE SHOWINGS, for the first time in 5 months, I let myself go, along with the kitchen, and didn’t even make the beds until before dinner. Why did I even make them by that time? Well, apparently making the beds for more than 21 days in a row truly became a habit. I rather like the habit as I firmly believe the whole house can be a disaster, but when the beds are made, somehow it looks tidy. Call me crazy. Am I the only weirdo that takes pictures of my trashed kitchen? It could be in the cartoon section of the paper, “What doesn’t belong in this picture (or on the counter?)
Notice what is in the center of the picture (not planted, I promise). Anyone see Galatians 5:22 & 23 on the counter?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
I love the above scripture because if we aspire to live by the Spirit of God and in turn produce fruit because of it, if those attributes are bothersome to others, it’s no skin off our backs, it just makes the devil mad…
“I love you.”
“I’m laughing in the face of adversity.”
“I don’t know why, but I just have this peace. I can’t explain it…”
“I’ll wait…seriously, take your time. God sees us as equal so your agenda is just as important as mine.”
“Here, let me help you with that.”
“You know what? Let me do that for you and give you a break for once.”
“You are my forever friend, regardless of distance or time.”
“How is your heart? Is there anything you need?”
“No, I’m choosing not to partake in that because it doesn’t draw me closer to my God who is so in love with me. It’s hard not to, but the choice is worth it.”

  1. Certainly not the only weirdo. I spell names with ketchup, mustard, etc. Whatever it takes to make those little guys happy and to eat!

Out of curiosity, why are you selling your adorable home?

Prayers for you, yours, and Noah always.

  2. I do the crazy stuff too. Like dying Easter eggs- just for fun- in September…making ‘shape’ and letter pancakes…eating whipped cream out of the can for breakfast. I know the time with my kids at these young ages goes so quickly. I have loved the gift of my grief as a perspective point for how much I will miss these days later on. So I soak them up and try to make the best of them now. I even take pictures of the chaos in my house from time to time…scrapping them on pages if there is a memory worth holding on to even. =)
Best to you in your new home and as you prepare to move. I thought it would be the hardest thing ever to leave Teagan’s ‘memories’ behind…but God gave us many blessings and it has been a good thing to be used in a new area. Thanks, as always, for sharing your insights and words from Scripture. They are so encouraging…and it is something I seek in my life…to grow better everyday!

  3. I’ve been following Noah’s story for quite some time and really admire your faith and committment to the Lord.

I’d like to ask that folks raise up Caleb Gardner, his caregivers and his family. Caleb is a little over a year old, and his parents are missionairies in Mozambique. Caleb has been in ICU in Johannasburg, South Africa for about six weeks now. You can read his story at:

  4. I do the same things Adrienne!!! I like the made beds also and even converted Craig into making the beds too! I am so happy that your house sold! Congratulations!!!

  5. Thanks for the smile this morning. You are not the only weirdo out there, though I am not a “mom” yet myself, I remember my mom doing similar things all the time and I do many silly things with the kids I have and do sit for or teach.

And there is just something about climbing into a made bed at night!

Right now the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ is the theme for my October (and November) bulletin board. I have a large scarecrow holding them as a sign with a ‘Happy Harvest’ sign around his neck. So thanks for continue, confirming thoughts GOD has been using with me.

    Have an abundantly blessed day!!

  6. I do all kinds of things for Savannah with food. Spelling with ketchup, letter pancakes, sandwich puzzles, etc. I do make my bed every morning when I get out, pet peeve! Good news on the house, pray the move goes well.
What clutter?? That is normal every day occurance at my house!

  7. Adrienne,
YEAH! I am not the only one that has the chaos in the kitchen! I think as moms it is our jobs to exemplify creativity! Avery’s loves when I put food in the “wrong” container. Intead of a bowl for her cereal I put it in a coffee mug. She thinks this is the greatest thing. And I’m happy she’s eating.
THank you for continuing to share about Noah and grieving. It’s so awesome to read such godly insights and to see the whole journey is encouraging to all of us that are grieving in one way or another. Thank you for your raw emotions and teaching all of us in internet world more about Christ.

  8. Crazy, weirdo…never! I make people out of hotdogs and spice up lots of dishes for my kids.
With Carlie being in the hospital, we are having to be pretty creative to get her to eat anything!

  9. yeah i think you’re a weirdo…

just like to be different sometimes:0) and i’m just trying to help you stay humble with all of the ego stroking you were getting! JUST KIDDING.

anything that gets them to eat a vegetable…is worth a try i’d say.

  10. How cute! When I do things like this for my children, it makes them so happy, and that brings a HUGE smile to my face and heart. It’s amazing how it can energize a mom to do little things like this.

    Jennifer 😉
